For all the people who have stood in the mirror mouthing “hope this is right” while holding 3 serums, a random moisturizer and a prayer – this one is for you!
One of the biggest (and saddest) mistakes we see is people buying amazing products for their skin, but not using them right! Using them in the wrong order etc. leading to them not getting the results they want!
We have a good GOLDEN rule for this:
Why does the order matter?
Our skin can only absorb so much at once, allowing the thinner products to be applied first gives me a good opportunity to penetrate the skin as much as they can.
Your thickest product is meant to seal everything in! This would typically be your moisturizer.
If you were to apply your thickest product first (moisturizer) and then one of your thinner products on top (serum, toner, etc.) it’s basically just going to sit on top of the moisturizer and not penetrate the skin much if at all!
Layering Properly Ensures:
Effective Results
Less Wasted Products
Better Absorption
Happy Healthy Skin
Proper Layering:
1. Cleanser (start with a clean base)
Removes dirt, debris, oils, makeup, pollutants
Morning: Gentle Cleanse
Night: Double Cleanse
2. Mask (treat or hydrate that skin)
Not an everyday step
Mainly used during facials
Used for various skin concerns
Remove before next steps
3. Toner (balance, balance, balance)
Usually mist or water texture (very thin)
PH Balancing
Hydrating
Prep skin for serums
4. Serum (target your specific concerns)
Watery but slightly thicker than toner
If using multiple use thinnest to thickest as well and give 30-60 sec between each to penetrate
5. Eye Cream (hydrate, anti-age)
Typically thinner than moisturizer but thicker than serum
No tugging or rubbing just gently tap into eye area
6. Moisturizer (Seal it in)
Locks everything you just applied in
Essential step no matter your skin type (gel, cream, lotion)
Skipping can cause more oil production (yes I’m for real)
7. SPF (our best friend <3 )
Final step for morning routine ALWAYS
After moisturizer, before makeup
Protection!!! Yes you need it even on the cloudy days!
NO SPF= all that skincare for nothing, sorry boo you gotta protect your skin!
Just remember you can have the PERFECT products but if you’re not using them right it will not help you any.
Remember the GOLDEN rule and you’ll be just fine! We believe in you!
